Magazine Research

This is my preliminary task research that I have done before starting the making process of my school magazine. So here is my magazine research:

I will be doing some research on a school magazine to see what they have done on this magazine on the front page and also on the contents page. I will be looking at the fusion school magazines front page and also the content page to see what i think is good about them and also what I would like to use when making my own school magazine. In this research I will be making three points on the front page design first and then I will be making three points on the contents page after that. This research will help me in the planning of my school magazine as this will help me to see what I could think about using in my school magazine.

Cover:

On the front page of this fusion newsletter there is the name of the newsletter in white with the background in red with a girl on the page with here face in black and also white. The front page also has smaller white text to the left side of the page that says what is going to be in the issue of the magazine. There is also some other text over the white part of the girls face with the words in red. With the front page being in these same three colours white, black and red this helps to make the whole of the magazine to have a colour scheme of these three colours. I feel that this helps to make the magazine stand out with it only mainly using these colours on the front page. I think that this would be a good thing for me to use on my school magazine as this would help my magazine stand out if it had a colour scheme to it that was made up of colour that are bright and also eye-catching. I will not use the same colours for my colour scheme that have been used on this magazine as I will using my own colours that I will choice.
Something else that has been used on the front page of the fusion school newsletter is only a small amount of text as there is not a really big amount inside of the school magazine, as it is not like an normal magazine as the school magazine has less in it as there is less to talk about in an school magazine. So there is a small amount of text on the front cover of the magazine, as normally there is a small amount of text on the front page of a magazine but there is even less as there is not as much in this school magazine. I think that this is a good thing that has been done on this magazine and I feel that it would also be a good thing to do on my school magazine. As it will help to make my school magazine more eye-catching as you will be able to see the image better. So I will try and do this on my magazine.
The last thing that I will be talking about on the front cover of the magazine will be that that there is only one large image on the front page that takes up the whole of the front page. This helps to show that the image that is being used on the front of the magazine is important in showing something about the school or about school life as it is large so that the image will be seen in an easy way and also be eye-catching. I think that the image that has been used on the front of this magazine is maybe a piece of art work that one of the students have done.  I feel that this would be an good thing to do on my magazine as it shows one main image that is more eye-catching for people how may be thinking about reading it. So I think that I may do this on my magazine.

Contents:

On the contents page there is the page numbers and what the page is called, there is then a small description below the page name and number to tell the reader what these pages will be about. So that they can see what pages will be about so then they can see what they may be interested in reading. I feel that this is a good thing to do on the contents page as then it will give the reader an idea of what is on the pages, I think that this would be good to use on my school magazine as then it will make it easy to see the name page number and what the page is all about.
Something else that is on the contents page is there a good use of a colour scheme. The names of the pages and the numbers are in different bright colours. There is also a use of text boxes that have coloured backgrounds with white or black text on them. So there has been a good use of colours without having a lot of colours on the background and it being to over the top. As also there has been a large amount of colour used on the front page of the magazine. The background colour of the fusion magazine is white this helps to make the other coloured text boxes and text stand out more, without having to much colour being used. I feel that this is a good idea as then there is not just the background in colour and the text and other things on the content page all in one colour.  I think that it would be a good idea to use this idea on my contents page of my school magazine.
On the contents page there is only one medium sized image that is mainly on the top half of the page. There are also some coloured text boxes that have other text in and also the actual contents are on the page. But there is only really the one main image which is of a tape for a caste player. I think that this is a good use of the page as then there is still room for having the contents on the page with out the rest of the page being plain or being to busy and having lot of images on or one really big one that takes up the whole of the page. I think that on this school newsletter the use of only the one image that is medium size instead of being really big is a good use of the space on the contents page. I feel that I will be doing this and not using the entire page with just one big image and having the contents in small text using a small amount of text. So then there will be room for other things on the contents page for other things. So I will be doing this on my magazine of having not a really big large image, but having a medium sized on instead.

Starting Preliminary task

Welcome to my A level Media studies Blog. I will be blogging about what I am doing with my A level media course work on this blog. I will be blogging on here every couple of days about what I am going towards my coursework and also how I am doing with it.

The first thing that I am doing as part of my coursework is the preliminary task which is the making of a school magazine I will be doing this over the next week. As this will be due in on the 7th February. I have just completed my research for this by looking at a school magazine. So that I could see what they have done and what I think is good and that I could use and also what I do not like and will not be thinking about using.

For this preliminary task in will be making the front cover and the contents page of a new school magazine. This must include a medium close-up from the chest up of a student for the school that the magazine is for. This is really just a trail run before the making of my music magazine.

After finishing of this preliminary task, I will be starting the research and making of a music magazine. I will be starting the work on the music magazine on 8th February. As the preliminary task has to be handed in by the Tuesday 7th February.  The deadlines for different parts of my music magazine are:

  • 20th March, Rough cut deadline(first draft)
  • 24th April, Final magazine deadline
  • 1st May, Final blog deadline
  • 8th May, Final Evaluation
